I think oil based pencils will always be a winner for people that like layering. Wax bloom is just a hassle in wax base pencils. I think i will take the 120 gold tin box instead.

This is a handy way to spread the ink thinner. (I came across this while looking for a way to mix gel inks together.) You should try this using 2 or 3 colors to spread together. I find that with my gelly pens, to get a good glob of wet ink down, once the ink is flowing well in the pen, if I tap in one spot, rather than scribbling it works a bit better. Sometimes, the tiniest wiggling/vibrating movement can get it flowing, too. (Then lightly tapping) That, and using the thicker nibbed gelly pens, work well too. The thicker, the layer of ink layed down, the more intense the color will look. I haven't tried using a spatula, but i imagine that you can control this by the amount of pressure used, and how far your spreading it. Thanks for the video!

I noticed you said nothing about the lightfastness which is a big deal for artists who are not just “coloring”. I also disagree with your statement that you could create good art with all as they could shade. If you cannot layer, you could possibly make a nice coloring sheet with only the colors provided but not an artistic work. So there I am a bit leery of your results. I think that if you cannot layer, they should not even be considered. It is essential for creating color pencil works. And if they fade in a month or a year? It was a waste of your time put in to make a fabulous piece of work. And third, I am assuming these are all wax based pencils but how fast do they bloom. I have ruined many works from blooming

The pencils look awesome. I just recently bought the Staedtler pigment art pens 36 set and I just love them. I am intimidated by pencils. I also bought a replacement set of Sakura stardust. use the pens in all of my coloring books and they work beautifully in all of my books.

Thank you for the review. I'm looking for a metalic paint set that work well with micron fineliners. I use the Arteza Gouche metallic and it has an amazing ahine but it clogs up the fineliner. I want to draw zentangle over the matallic painted background.

Thank you! Love this video. I also just started coloring with acrylic paint markers. Have you tried them on your Coloring Bliss marker paper? I haven't tried blending yet, but I found one coat of white gesso worked well to protect the paper in my magazine type Color by Number Mystery Colors Magical Kingdoms book. The white gesso helped hide the lines and numbers, but I could still see them well enough to color. The acrylic paint finished covering the lines and numbers. Not fine art by any stretch of the imagination, but lots of fun. I've been trying to think of the best way to color something like your beautiful bird with paint markers. Thanks again for the varnish idea.
